<image:title>Beth Burrows - Beth Burrows | American Whiskey Ambassador, James B. Beam Distilling Company</image:title>
<image:caption>A New York native, BB has led a life rooted in hospitality. Raised by a chef, in a family of educators, she started developing her palate early on. Through the years, she found her passion for educating and public speaking- especially on the topics closest to her heart. BB’s love of whiskey came many years later while she was working behind the stick in Louisville, Kentucky. It was there that she quickly fell in love with the history and the chemistry behind American Whiskey and started her love affair with cocktail creation. Her whiskey journey really picked up when Down One Bourbon Bar opened their doors in 2013. Through her development of bar programs and unique creations of whiskey-centric entertainment, she had the opportunity to collaborate with titans of the industry on inimitable and quirky projects directly in the heart of Whiskey Row. Over the span of three years, she moved through the ranks- from server to General Manager, where she garnered respect and praise from both colleagues and guests. Five years ago, BB joined the team at Beam Suntory. Known for her enthusiasm and approachable style, as an American Whiskey Ambassador, she strives to be the human embodiment of the Kentucky Hug. She utilizes her broad spirits education, industry background, and continued community involvement to help cultivate an unpretentious environment in the world of whiskey, starting right in the backyard of bourbon. Throughout the year, she works with our Distillery teams to remain close to the ever-expanding campus and operations. She also curates educational entertainment, participates in tasting panels, and helps develop new products. In normal times, you can find her at Whiskey dinners and Cocktail Events across the country sharing 226 years of the Family’s legacies with friends on their own whiskey journeys. But don’t be surprised when you run into her at your favorite cocktail bars, especially the ones with pup-friendly patios. If online is more your speed, you can also catch her on the Sunday Porch Sessions broadcast the last Sunday of every month over on The Blend’s IGTV. When she is not spreading the good word of the James B. Beam Distilling Co. or working to uncover the perfect spirit & food pairings, you can find her wandering nature with her camera or on a Netflix binge of documentaries, zombie movies, and her favorite sitcoms for the thirty-seventh time. Beth was recently named as the D&I Chair for The Bourbon Society. www.jimbeam.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>EAT, DRINK, WRITE, SPEAK—IT’S WHAT I DO Once a chef, then a journalist, now an author, ghostwriter, speaker and pairings leader I never planned to write about food and drink, but 11 years working in restaurants, serving tables, cooking and reading industry trade publications drew me in. And eventually, I left the restaurant biz—to write about it. For three decades I’ve covered every aspect of restaurants for leading magazines and websites while branching out as an industry copywriter. Living in Kentucky led me to the bourbon industry and its boundless stories. In addition to writing for multiple spirits publications, I help distilleries share their unique messages through web and marketing content creation. While writing my first book, I discovered that food pairs really well with spirits. I now lead food and spirits pairings in person and virtually. I also enjoy ghostwriting, getting into another’s mind and putting their thoughts to paper. Few things gratify me like a client saying, “That’s exactly what I was thinking! How did you do that?” A couple of “ghosted” books, countless speeches, position papers and blogs later, I’m still loving it. Sounds like fun, right? It is. Lucky me, I love my work! <image:title>Cordell Lawrence - Cordell Lawrence | Director, Global Marketing and Strategy, Peerless Distilling Co.</image:title>
<image:caption>There are a handful of Kentuckians who can trace their lineage to the days before statehood was established in 1792, to the days when Kentucky was still considered a county of Virginia. Cordell Lawrence’s family has been in Kentucky for nearly 250 years, so it’s no surprise his pride for the state runs deep. As does his pride for Kentucky’s signature industry: distilling. Cordell’s great-grandfather was a doctor who graduated from the University of Louisville in 1913 and lived within walking distance of what is now the Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company. In those days, doctors made house calls and patients sometimes bartered for services. One such patient paid Cordell’s great-grandfather with a handmade still. It’s been passed down through the generations and today is proudly displayed in Cordell’s office at Peerless. “I grew up touring local distilleries with my father and grandfather, so I’ve always had a passion for whiskey and bourbon,” said Lawrence. “My personal connection to distilling and my career experience in the industry ultimately led me to Peerless, where I’m proud to be part of a family-owned brand with an incredible heritage here in Kentucky.” After earning his business degree from Transylvania University in Lexington—America’s 16th oldest college—Cordell brought his marketing and communications acumen to the distilling world. He worked with iconic brands like Jack Daniels and Southern Comfort before joining the Peerless team. Cordell instantly felt a connection with the Peerless story as told by the man himself, Corky Taylor. Corky’s authenticity and ingerity were what inspired Cordell to join the Peerless team. He strives to share the Peerless experience with people across the world. “Cordell’s depth of marketing experience at some of the world’s most recognizable spirits brands has helped bring global attention to what we’re doing at Peerless,” said Peerless proprietor Corky Taylor. “As a key member of our team, Cordell shares our family’s passion for handcrafted quality.” Today, as director of global marketing and strategy for Peerless, Cordell brings the Peerless story to distributors and consumers around the world and oversees the brand’s expansion into new markets. www.kentuckypeerless.com</image:caption>

<image:title>Caleb Kilburn - Caleb Kilburn | Master Distiller, Peerless Distilling Co.</image:title>
<image:caption>Peerless Master Distiller Caleb Kilburn was raised in Salt Lick, Kentucky on his family’s dairy farm. These years taught him the meaning of hard work and endowed him with an impressive array of mechanical skills, which would prove invaluable later in life when he was called to help restore Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. Caleb graduated valedictorian of his high school. He pursued his passion for the sciences at Morehead State University, where he excelled at biology, chemistry, physics, engineering and math. He became fascinated by distillation when he discovered how the process brought together all of his favorite disciplines. During a distiller’s course offered by the Distilled Spirits Epicenter, Caleb befriended instructors who would later become his mentors. Rob Sherman, the president of Vendome Copper and Brass Works in Louisville, Kentucky, Pete Kamer, the retired head engineer of Barton Brands in Bardstown, Kentucky, and Randy Allender, Distillery Consultant; each provided Caleb with educational opportunities and advice over the course of the next year. Each mentor eventually recommended that Caleb work with the newly reviving Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company. When Caleb’s natural sensory skills became apparent, it was only a matter of time before he was chosen to craft the inaugural rye whiskey for Peerless. By the end of summer, Carson and Corky Taylor, the family ownership of Kentucky Peerless, formally offered Caleb the position of head distiller. After several months of preparation, on March 4, 2015, Caleb distilled Peerless’s first barrel of whiskey in 98 years, which legitimized his position in a moment that he claims to be a dream come true. In the fall of 2017, this dream continued as Peerless’s Kentucky Straight Rye earned industry-wide respect when it was named the No. 15 whiskey in the world by Whisky Advocate at just two years old. Like Peerless Founder Henry Kraver, Caleb is an innovator of his generation. His intense understanding and passion for the craft have resulted in bold improvement and award-winning spirits. Despite his uncanny intellect and meteoric rise in the craft spirits’ world, Caleb remains modest regarding his accomplishments. Caleb never considered himself a master distiller. He held that revered title for his idols and heroes. Though humble and unassuming, Caleb is nothing short of a prodigy. Humility aside, as one of the youngest distillers in the history of the industry, he has crafted spirits that rival the finest in the world. In late December 2018, Caleb was honored with the title master distiller as Peerless released its 3-year Rye Whiskey and continued to be recognized for its tremendous quality and craftsmanship. www.kentuckypeerless.com</image:caption>

<image:title>Jim Rutledge - Jim Rutledge | Managing Partner, J. W. Rutledge Distillery</image:title>
<image:caption>Jim Rutledge has been working in the Bourbon business for over 50 years with Seagram and Four Roses and now at JW Rutledge Distillery. He was Master Distiller at Four Roses for more than 20 years. His passion, enthusiasm and loyalty for Four Roses Bourbons and the distillery employees and staff were instrumental in returning Four Roses Bourbon to the USA after spending more than 40 years in European and Japanese markets only. The 1990s were a very important time for Four Roses, as Four Roses credits Jim, now Master Distiller Emeritus, for his work to bring the brand back to the United States during this time. Jim joined the Four Roses family in 1966, working with Seagram in the Louisville Plant’s Research and Development Department. In 1975, he was transferred to Corporate Headquarters in New York as the head of industrial engineering and budgets, and stayed at this office for 17 years. It was during these years that Jim’s passion for Four Roses began to stir, and from his position, he believed that the brand needed much more care and attention to production and quality than it was being given. So, in 1992 Jim returned to the Commonwealth of Kentucky to help with the Four Roses brand – first, overseeing budgets at the Warehouse & Bottling Facility in Cox’s Creek, then as Master Distiller in Lawrenceburg in November 1994. Jim began his quest to bring Four Roses back to the country almost immediately after his return to Kentucky. Finally, by the end of 1994, he convinced the company to allow Four Roses Yellow, their 80-proof product now known as Four Roses Bourbon, to be made available in limited quantities. Without any advertising, the brand then found its way to select retail shelves in Kentucky. In 2001, Rutledge was inducted into the inaugural class of the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame. He was given a “Lifetime Achievement Award” by Malt Advocate Magazine in 2007, and in 2008 Whisky Magazine named him “Whisky Ambassador of the Year – American Whiskies.” In 2012, Whisky Magazine also named Jim to its Icons of Whisky Hall of Fame, for global whiskies. He was the 2nd American inducted into this elite group of whisky makers. Jim retired from Four Roses in 2015 and started a new career as a consultant, sharing his years of industry experience with other distillers. Jim is also curating his own high-end bourbon brands, Cream of Kentucky Bourbon and High Plains Bourbon and rye whiskey. He has also been distilling several times a year at Castle and Key in Kentucky. Jim has his sights set on starting construction soon on the JW Rutledge Distillery in Kentucky, which will produce Bourbon and rye whiskey once the site gains the funding. Jim hopes to “maintain the integrity” of Bourbon and rye whiskey and build a modern and sustainable distillery “that looks more like a Californian winery”. Plans are for it to be a “mid-sized” distillery with capacity for 35,000 barrels a year. www.jwrutledge.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>Preston is the fourth generation member of the Van Winkle family to enter into the bourbon business. He is the great grandson of iconic bourbon maker Julian P. “Pappy” Van Winkle, Sr. and son of current Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery President, Julian P. Van Winkle, III. Preston grew up in the post Stitzel-Weller era of Van Winkle bourbon production, exploring his father’s bottling hall and barrel warehouse in Lawrenceburg, KY, occasionally helping with the bottling and labeling. Preston graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2001 and immediately started working for his father. Initially he split time between the Louisville office and the Lawrenceburg bottling facility where he often processed bourbon for bottling and ran the bottling line as Julian had for the previous 20 plus years. In 2002 the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery partnered with the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, KY, freeing up Julian and Preston from production duties enabling them to focus on the sales and marketing of the brands. Preston assumed the role of Marketing Manager for Old Rip Van Winkle and has worked since then to help manage and market the Van Winkle brands. www.oldripvanwinkle.com</image:caption>

<image:title>Julian P. Van Winkle - Julian P. Van Winkle | President, Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery</image:title>
<image:caption>Julian P. Van Winkle, III is the third generation Van Winkle to produce bourbon whiskey in Kentucky. Julian started working for his Dad, Julian Jr. in 1977. After his Dad sold the Stitzel Weller Distillery in 1972, Julian Jr. created the Old Rip Van Winkle brand. He arranged for the new owners of Stitzel Weller to bottle the Van Winkle’s brand, Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon using Old Boone and Stitzel-Weller distillation. Bourbon was not an easy sell in those years. Many bottlers/distillers were putting really good whiskey in fanciful decanters in order to sell their whiskey. Soon after his Dad passed away in 1981, Julian was forced to purchase the Old Hoffman Distillery plant in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky in 1983 in order to stay in business. The new owners at Stitzel-Weller were not interested in continuing the Van Winkle bottling relationship. In Lawrenceburg, Julian aged his barrels and bottled all his brands along with a few other customers including A.H. Hirsch, Michter’s and Black Maple Hill. After Julian found the now famous photo of his grandfather in a basement file cabinet in the mid-90’s, the Pappy Van Winkle brand was created. At that time, 10-year Old Rip Van Winkle and 12-year Van Winkle Special Reserve were the only two labels he sold of their wheated bourbon whiskey. The 20-year Pappy Van Winkle brand scored a 99, the highest rating ever given by the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute. Eventually, the 15 and 23 year Pappy Van Winkle labels were added to the Van Winkle portfolio. Julian was the first to sell ultra-aged premium bourbon whiskeys. He also added a 13-year premium rye whiskey to the whiskey portfolio, the oldest premium rye on the market at the time. All of these whiskeys received ratings in the 90’s by the Chicago BTI. Julian had operated the company by himself since his father’s death in 1981. However, he was joined by his son Preston in June of 2001, the fourth generation Van Winkle to venture into the whiskey business. In 2002, since he was having no whiskey being produced for the future, Julian joined forces with Buffalo Trace Distillery who now owned the W.L. Weller brand. This joint venture would solve any future supply issues that may arise. Buffalo Trace continues to distil, age and bottle the Van Winkle’s brands today. In January of 2009, Julian was honored to be nominated as a Fellow at the Southern Foodways Alliance annual fundraiser at Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee. The next January, at the same fundraising event, he was inducted as a new member into the Fellowship of Southern Farmers, Artisans and Chefs. This is a tremendous honor as the group members are some of the most talented people around. In 2009 and 2010, Julian was nominated for a James Beard award under the category of Outstanding Wine & Spirits Professional. The James Beard awards are the Oscars of the Food & Beverage world. In May of 2011, Julian won the prestigious Wine & Spirits Professional award and was at the Lincoln Center in New York City to receive his award. He was the first Kentuckian to receive a James Beard award. Whisky Magazine has honored Julian Van Winkle III with its highest accolade, inducting him into its Hall of Fame. Julian was recognized at the 2017 Whisky Magazine Awards America presentation held in New York on Feb. 28. He was at the time one of only 39 to be awarded this honor. In 2020, the book Pappyland, A Story of Family, Fine Bourbon and the Things That Last written by ESPN sportswriter Wright Thompson, was published by Penguin Press. The book tells of Julian’s sometimes difficult relationship with his father and his struggle in the early years to keep his family’s bourbon heritage alive. www.oldripvanwinkle.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>Frank. The state of being open, honest and sincere. A philosophy we have built our brand upon. Bourbon is America’s native spirit, but as intrinsically steeped in the American experience as bourbon is, it has predominantly had one story; one of origin. Respectfully, we believe there is a more expansive story to tell, one that belongs to all of us because it will be told by all of us. Frank August exists to evolve the identity of bourbon by uniting authenticity with modernity. Taking the best of where we’ve been and projecting those ideals into where we have yet to go. So let the story of bourbon continue; as the story of Frank August begins. www.thefrankaugust.com</image:caption>

<image:title>Rick & Ricky Johnson - Rick & Ricky Johnson | Co-Founders of 15 STARS Fine Aged Bourbon</image:title>
<image:caption>Rick and Ricky Johnson are the father and son co-founders of 15 STARS Fine Aged Bourbon. They are also the blenders behind each of the highly awarded 15 STARS whiskeys. The Johnson’s blending always starts with highly aged whiskeys, up to 20 years old, and then the magic begins with balancing flavors to produce the extra complexity and dimension that can come from the delicate marriage of fine aged bourbons. The final step is what the Johnsons call “flavor proofing” where with no preconceived notions of what a proof should be they look for the optimal proof to best showcase the flavors in each blend. The Johnsons distill several unique heirloom corn based bourbons, with corns that have never been used before in bourbon. These heirloom corns exist because of their unique flavor and originate from their popcorn company, Black Jewell Popcorn. These are gourmet specialty corns that come in black, red, white, and blue where each brings a unique profile to whiskey that the family can use to bring new flavors to Kentucky bourbon. 15 STARS has received over 100 key awards and accolades since their first release in 2022, including being named “Blender of the Year” in 2023 by the John Barleycorn Awards. The father and son duo have had two of their whiskeys win “Best of Show” at the New York Work Wine and Spirits Competition and also at the LA Spirits Awards. They have won multiple “Best in Class” awards as well like “Best Bourbon” and “Best Finished Bourbon” from the World Whiskey Awards and the NYWSC. In 2023, the brand was one of four nominees to the International Wine and Spirits Competition’s “Whiskey Producer of the Year”. www.15stars.com</image:caption>
